How To Use This Site

Welcome to SoGerman! Our blog is a project designed and managed by staff and students in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Southampton. We are all enthusiastic followers of German language and culture and we want to share our interests with you.

Who do we mean by “you”? Well, we are thinking in particular of 6th Form students who are beginning to specialise in German or who are maybe just starting to learn the language. Or you might simply like to know more about aspects of life in German-speaking countries – places and people, language and history, customs and traditions.

We’ve arranged the topics we’ve chosen into general categories to help you find things that might appeal to you, but there’s no ‘right’ way to use the site – feel free to browse and dip into anything that catches your eye. The content is constantly updated by our project team and we hope that you will get involved too by sending us your own ideas.

Seen a new film or read a book you’d like to review? Discovered a new music sensation? Got some hot tips for places to eat or sights to see after a trip to Germany? Come across an amusing idiom? Stumbled on some curious customs? Thought of topics we haven’t yet covered? Please send your comments, ideas and contributions to us at sogerman@soton.ac.uk

And do follow us on Facebook and Twitter – and tell your friends, teachers and family about us too. SoGerman is a collaborative venture: we hope you like it and look forward to hearing from you.

Your SoGerman team.
